They might have only be small fees of £1 a time, but Companies House has stopped charging for information.
In a small, but significant, victory for open data enthusiasts the service has decided to waiver the fee for information relating to companies.
It’ll be free from the middle of next year.
For those ego really wanted the data, or without expense accounts, the charge wouldn’t have stopped them from paying for it but fully opening up the website will hopefully mean the data is a lot more accessible for journalists and those wanting to check out companies, potential employers, directors and more.
As reported by City AM it could see significant savings as a whole:
The Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS) says that last year (2013/2014) customers spent £8.7m to see these records. As of the second quarter of 2015, it’ll become free.
